Burke’s crystal lakes and streams are surrounded by dense North Carolina forestlands and untouched wilderness, just minutes from downtown.

Morganton and Valdese feature art galleries and history museums, historic districts and picturesque downtowns. Valdese is home to the outdoor drama “From This Day Forward” and a scaled recreation of the history of the Waldensians.

Quaker Meadows Park, part of Morganton’s Catawba River Greenway Park, includes a Little League baseball complex, picnic shelters, canoe launches and a paved walking and biking trail. At the other end of the Catawba River Greenway is the Morganton Soccer Complex, additional picnic shelters, a playground and fishing piers.
